The post-mortem inventory of teh venerable Joan Xanxo, a priest in Barcelona, was made at the instance of his brothers Raphael and Gabriel. He lived in houses on the street dena lamada [?]. Xanxo was clearly a professional scribe and owned a lot of materials that would indicate he was a copyist of liturgical and music books. In the room where he plied his trade ('en vna cambra de dita casa en la qual lo dit mossen xanxo se possehyia de son offiçi'), were found items needed for copying, including paper, vellum, pens, rulers, rastra, inks, particularly vellum and 'vn pandero pera Roure los pregamins'. He had a number of books in a chest, including: 'Primo vn breviari Roma bo; Item vn libre de cant bo; vn libre de castella nomenat dos problemas de villalobos bo; vn missal bo y nou; vnes hores de pregami; vn libre de musica bo y nou; vna biblia; vns impnes pasquals de pregami; vn libre de selestina xiquet bo; vn breuiari dolent; vn lunari dolent; vn libre de mostros de lletra bo'. Thus, an interesting mix of liturgical books, music books (chant and polyphony) and La Celestina. The auction was begun on 25 September 1562, where most of the boks were sold. The 'libre de cant' was sold to Pere Aguilar for 1s, together with a Roman missal and a Barcelona breviary (14s.6d). A further 'libret de cant' was sold to Joan Pasqual, a student, for 2s; possibly this was the 'libre de musich' mentioned in the post-mortem inventory.
