Joan Ribes, a merchant and citizen of Barcelona, had a house with shops and a tower in Barcelona. The street name given in the preamble to the inventory perhaps indicates Carrer de Montcada. The inventory is in the same document as the auction, and two copies of the entire document survive. The first is badly water damaged, and has suffered bookworm attacks. I have referred to this copy on the assumption that it is the older, and consulted the later version in instances of illegibility.
Ribes appears to have been very wealthy, with large amounts of gold, silver, tapestries, expensive beds, a mule, and several deeds for land owned outside the city. There is also an elaborate font made of silver, decorated with angels. While there are chapels mentioned, there is no direct trace of musical sources or activity.
