Helen Herbert received her bachelor’s degree in music performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2020. She has since completed a Research Master of Musicology (cum laude) at Universiteit Utrecht where she wrote her thesis ‘Josquin in Black and White: Materiality in Early Twentieth-Century Photographs of Historical Music Sources at Universiteit Utrecht’s Josquin Archief.’ Helen is now embarking on a PhD supervised by Tess Knighton and Matthew Champion as part of the SOUNDSPACE project, ‘How Processions Moved: Sound and Space in the Performance of Urban Ritual, c.1400–c.1700’ at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her research will focus on the role of sound and it’s interaction with temporality, memory, space, and the senses in urban ritual.
