The Consueta of Granada Cathdral was drawn up between 1509 and 1514. Singing had an important role in the celebration of the liturgy in the anhancement of divine worship, thus making the employment of singers a necessity.

In order to enhance divine worship and so that the church may be more honoured and the divine offices better celebrated and so that the people may be more consoled and inspired to devotion, there should be singers, as has always been the custom.
